Let’s Declutter: A Look into Closet Organization

closet_storage

Having an organized space is an essential step to making your house a home, because a clutter-free space is a clean slate for decor and time spent in your home. To do this, we love incorporating lots of storage solutions to hide any messes or pieces you can’t seem to part ways with! But what about the epitome of personal storage, your closet. Often, because they are tucked away, closets become an overlooked space in your home. However, we think they are one of the most important to focus on.

So, whether you’re working with a small space or a Kardashian-worthy walk-in, your closet should be a very personal space, holding and organizing your clothes, shoes and maybe even a memory box or two! But what if yours is a tad messy? Let’s talk about how to maximize your space and create the closet of your dreams.

Why Declutter Your Closet?

First things first: Decluttering! Why is it important to rid your closet space of unnecessary items? To make room for new clothes, of course! This is especially on our minds at the start of a new season. It means it’s time for a new wardrobe, right? Well, okay maybe not all new clothes, but it’s the perfect time to rotate in some of your favorite pieces that you haven’t worn in a while. Plus, rotating your clothes based on the time of year can actually make you feel like you have a whole new wardrobe every few months, without spending the extra money.

Don’t forget about the increased efficiency and cleanliness that a closet declutter can bring to your everyday life. It removes the stress of “not having anything to wear”. After a clear out, you are left with options you really want and love to wear. A streamlined wardrobe will also clear up space in your closet for organization. So try sorting by type of item, color or seasonal wear.

Spice Up Your Decor

Find new ways to store your closet essentials and showcase your style! Displaying your favorite outfits on a clothing rack in your bedroom can be a fun way to play up your decor and make some extra closet room. Adding a clothing rack can help add more pops of color to the space, even if you prefer a neutral wardrobe. Display your favorite red dress or bright pantsuit for you to admire each day.

This is also a great way to plan outfits for the upcoming week, while subtly showing off that new top you just bought and can’t wait to wear or you want to give some tried and true pieces some extra love. If any of these appeal to you, we think we might have the perfect rack that will compliment your space.

What You’ll Need

Now that you’ve decluttered and know where to put your belongings, let’s talk about how to store it to maximize space and style! It’s important to start with the basics of closet organization, like hanger selection. For instance, we suggest using velvet hangers to better grip your clothes and to prevent them from getting tangled. As for size, that depends on the items you wish to hang. Dresses, blouses and shirts need light support, so try a thinner option. Then with bulkier jackets and pants will require larger hangers.

Let’s Talk About Closet Systems

So, what do you do if you have an abundance of closet space but no method of organization? First of all, we’re jealous. Second, it may be time to look into a closet system for your home. These features are great for many reasons, like:

  •  None of your space will go to waste! Closet systems allow you to customize your storage space to fit exactly what you need it to organize, meaning no space goes unused. So if you are a sneakerhead or have an extensive coat collection, set up the closet system that meets your needs.
  • Your closet becomes your own personal shopping experience. Your clothes are thoughtfully organized and displayed in the closet for your perusing, just like in a high-end clothing store. We love the idea of shopping without even leaving the house. With, of course, the added bonus of already owning the pieces that are now just displayed in a way where you can see everything!
  • These customizations add value to your home for when you are ready to sell it. Closet systems create organized corners of your home. Prospective buyers are able to envision their own clothes hanging in the closet you have made. They are a thoughtful investment into the home you are building, so if a buyer sees them in a potential new home, their work is already done.

When approaching your organization project, remember the important C’s: consolidate, clear out, clothing racks and closet systems. With our tips and tricks, closet organization can be a breeze! We hope you are able yours into the closet of your dreams, and we want to see the results.

How to Bring French Country to Your Interiors

French_Country

No one knows style better than the French, especially when it comes to interiors. With luxurious textures and hints of floral accents, we’re taking all the inspo from them we can get! Whether it’s your bedroom, dining room or living space, we’ve got you covered.

What’s Special About French Country?

You might be thinking: Why would I want my home decor to be inspired by the French Countryside? Well, we can think of tons of reasons, but to name just one: The French are all about romantic and elegant touches, contrasted by rustic pieces with bold and distinguishing features. To us, home is a place that feels organic and comforting, while creating a sophisticated yet homey environment. We think the French Country-inspired rooms do just that!

A Five-Star Dining Experience

Let’s start with the dining room. We are so inspired by all of the amazing content our customers continue to create with one of our favorite collections: the Grindleburg dining set! The light brown rustic wood creates a nice contrast with bright white walls and warm lighting accents, a pairing often seen in French Country-inspired spaces. Check out their spaces below, and don’t blame us if you find yourself whisked away to a French cottage surrounded by the countryside (mentally, of course).

It’s All About the Lighting

Lighting can change the vibe of any room. Whether you want a warm romantic feel or bright white modern feel, lighting might just be your best asset. There are so many ways to light up a space, but let’s talk about an element sure to be the star of any space: candlesticks. They’re making a comeback, and we’re not talking about the old clunky ones. Candlesticks with a modern twist are in! For example, we also love the look of a candlestick lamp, same vibe as the traditional candlestick with elevated functionality! You can even bring the light back into your dining room! Perhaps atop a buffet table, topped with two matching candlestick table lamps, or situated next to a candlestick floor lamp.

Staying with the theme of light, let’s talk about pendant lighting. We think our pendant lights can add the right touch to any space by bringing in the modern yet rustic feel of French Country. We love the look of these because they add a warm glow anywhere you put them, even hanging from the ceiling! Plus, you can simply switch them out when you want to try something new!

If you are committed to having this look in your home, why not have the perfect French Country-inspired lighting in the entry space, for yourself and others to enjoy. A chandelier over your bed, or even matching pendants hovering over nightstands? Yes, please! In bathrooms, pendant lights like this one act as a great alternative to sconces. They’re an elegant lighting option that is sure to bring a taste of the French Country to any vanity, but can also function as the perfect ambient bathroom light.

Living Like the French

Let’s move on to one of our favorite rooms of the house: the living space. With lots of upholstered furniture and space for area rugs, this is a great place to play up the patterns! Why stick with solids when you can do as the French do and throw in a mix of colors and textures sure to make any space pop! Adding accent chairs is a great way to do this. Check out the Engineer Accent Chair; we love its two-tone finish and nail-head trim.

Another way that we’ve found to add French Country texture and warmth to a space is with curtains! Window treatments bring more comfort and personality to every space, and this is no exception! We think warm-toned patterned curtains will really do the trick, see below for the window treatments sure to bring French Country into your space!

A European-Inspired Bedroom

We actually think bedrooms are one of the best rooms to play up the French inspiration by using dramatic quilted headboards, elegant prints, and even some elements we’ve already touched on (like curtains and candlesticks)! If you want to bring the French Country into your bedroom, look no further than the Jennily bedroom set. We love the statement that this bold bed frame makes with its classic white-wash finish, especially against a painted or wallpapered accent wall!

As you can see, there are so many ways to tie the essence of the French Country into your home. From pendant lighting to rustic dining room sets, these accents are sure to make a statement, big or small! If you use any of the ideas from this blog, make sure to take photos of your beautiful space and tag us on Instagram with # MyAshleyHome so we can check it out! You might even get featured on our social channels. Also, be sure to get even more inspo from our Pinterest page!

Creating a Fall-Inspired Bedroom in 7 Easy Steps

fall_bedroom

The leaves are changing, and which means it’s time for our home decor to reflect the season. You feel the brisk air as you sip coffee on your porch and check your emails for the day, and the excitement of the holiday season within arm’s reach. Welcome the season into your home with adorable home decor accents that give your space an autumnal refresh. In this guide to achieving the perfect seasonal space, we wanted to show you how to achieve a fall-friendly look in your bedroom.

This time of year is all about getting cozy and feeling peaceful in your home. So bundle up and crank up the heat in your home, and let’s welcome fall with these easy steps for bedroom decor. And for those of you still feeling the heat of summer, click here to read our guide to decorating for the season in the South.

Saving Energy and Staying Cozy

Don’t worry about arguing over the thermostat! There are so many ways to save energy to keep everyone comfortable.

Before you buy any decor, having a cozy home is key to embracing fall. Start with an easy fix by adjusting your ceiling fan. Since heat rises, reverse the direction to clockwise so the fan can push warm air back down. This will prevent pockets of cold air from settling in corners of the room.

Let the light in and open your blinds! In rooms that receive a lot of sunlight, keeping things open will brighten up the room and warm things up while you are out. For homes with south-facing windows,

However, if a particular space does not receive a lot of natural light, keep the blinds closed to trap heat inside.

Got any tips for keeping your home cozy this season without breaking your budget? Let us know in the comments below!

Add a Touch of Fall Nature

If you have an affinity for artificial greenery, transition your faux plant assortment to reflect the change of seasons. Start with a few fall foliage accents, and then completely replace the greenery with items that feature rich warm colors. Just like the changing leaves outside!

A few of our favorite warm greenery includes dried pampas grass, eucalyptus and sunflowers. Complete the seasonal set up with a beautiful vase.

A Monochromatic Mood

Cavern clay and brick red have been huge trends in the interior design space in 2020, and fall is a great time to add those colors to your home. They bring a gentle warmth to any room and are easy to pair with most color palettes. These are deep tones that still allow you to integrate color in your home without going too bright. And if you are a fan of bohemian interiors, these shades are essential to any boho space!

Let your bedding be the foundation of your bedroom’s color palette. A rich, brick-colored set will envelop you in an autumnal color palette. It’ll feel like a cozy take on the pile of brightly-color leaves, which is an autumnal staple. Decorate with pillows and a matching blanket for a polished aesthetic.

Layering Isn’t Just for Your OOTD

For more inspiration for your fall-themed bedroom, look no further than your closet! Your favorite fall outfit can help guide you through the decorating process. What are your favorite colors to wear during fall? What are your favorite textures? Take note of your favorite layered looks and use them as inspiration while you decorate. So, let’s create some visual interest with home decor.

Feeling Fall on the Floor

We are starting from the bottom with this makeover, literally. Layering area rugs is a great way to achieve visual interest in your space with a cozy look. And you get the bonus of starting your day with a plush rug under your feet. Start with a jute rug as the base for this design. The organic texture will draw the eye and the natural brown color is perfect for any space.

Layer with a faux fur-style rug for a cozy vibe. The plushness is juxtaposed by the rough texturing of jute. Or you can fully embrace a fall color palette by layering the neutral jute with a rug that includes warm tones that are synonymous with the season. We suggest a style full of vibrant reds with orange highlights.

Wrap Yourself in Style

Blankets are one of the easiest ways to transition the decor of your home during the colder months. They keep you cozy and come in a variety of knits, textures, colors and styles. Thankfully, you don’t have to choose just one! Be liberal with your choice of throw blankets to find the perfect mix-and-match vibe.

You can also store your extra blankets in a woven basket for an organic look for fall. Roll the blankets up to arrange them in a basket like an autumnal arrangement of flowers. They will look like an adorable textile bouquet at your bedside. And just pull them out as the nights start to get chilly.

Picture-Perfect Pillows

Use pillows as a final touch to your fall-inspired bedroom. Alternate pillows to mix up your bedding. Pillows literally come in all shapes and sizes, so the possibilities are endless. Create a gradient effect for fall with warm browns, reds and oranges. Once you have the colors selected, browse the types of textures you can arrange. We like the look of a faux leather pillow with a woven textured style. It’s a mixture of a polished, industrial style and something homier.

Let’s bring the feeling of fall into our space and truly enjoy the season from the comfort of our homes. Transform your bedroom into something out of your vision board with home decor accents that stand out. These details will complement any interior design style, so start experimenting. We’d love to see what you come up with.

5 Tips to Master Your Next Move

You signed the paperwork, purchased the boxes and played with the bubble wrap. It’s time for a fresh start in a new home. First, congratulations on the big move! This might be your first experience on your own, or you just want to get a better handle on this process. And admittedly, it’s stressful. You are packing up your whole life and transferring it to a new destination. Sometimes you don’t realize how big of an undertaking it is.

But unlike your friends, you don’t need to bribe us with pizza to help you move. So, consider us your honorary moving company. We’re here to provide you with tips to tackle this project. This five-step guide will answer questions like “How do I move my sofa without ruining it?” and “How do I make my new place feel like home?” We hope that by the end of this post, you’re better prepared for this new chapter.

Measure for Your Move

Measuring is the backbone of a good moving strategy. Start measuring from the first time you tour a potential apartment or house. This is especially essential for anyone who is moving to a new home with their current furniture pieces. You don’t want to arrive at your beautiful apartment on move-in day and your sofa can’t fit up the stairs. Trust us, there’s only so much pivoting you can do. So, with your tape measure in tow, ask yourself these questions:

  • Can my furniture fit through the front doorway?
  • Is there a freight elevator in the building?
  • How much space do I have in my current home?
  • What is the layout of this place compared to my current one?
  •  Am I willing to downsize the amount of furniture I have? Or the size?

Be sure to keep these measurements written down to reference at any point. Bring them with you when you shop for your new furniture, so a store associate can best assist you in your search.

Protect What You Transport

It’s time to break out the bubble wrap. We know you’re probably ready to just throw your belongings into boxes if it means you can be finished sooner. However, this might cause more harm down the road. Fragile items like lamps, dinnerware and photo frames might be damaged in the process. You can use clothing as a cushion to protect these items. Just remember you hid your plate set in your jackets before you go to hang them!

For those of you who are having furniture delivered to your new home, we’ve got you covered. Review our delivery success guide for all the steps you need to protect your pad.

Find What Speaks to You

Let’s discover your style, together! This new home can be a re-creation of the space you have already created, or it can be a complete aesthetic refresh. There are so many tools to get you started. Check out our Pinterest page to gather more information. Our boards are carefully curated to inspire you to create your dream home. For any beginners, we have a blog to help you build a home decor-focused board.

Once you have a general idea of the style that fits your vibe, you can shop according to that design preference. We have a “Shop By Style” page where you can find all the essentials for the look you are going for, from mid-century modern to glam and everything in between. You can also review our assortment of buying guides to help you further visualize your perfect space.

Fashion and Function

When shopping for a new space, you need to reach a balance between what looks good and what will be efficient for your home. So, with your measurements in tow, it’s time to bring your inspiration to life. You might find a beautiful five-piece sectional but only have the square-footage for a sofa. Ask yourself what you need in your space first, and then how to accomplish that within your design preferences. Here are some questions to get you started.

  • How can you make the most of your space?
  • What are your biggest needs in your new home? Home office area? A separate dining room?
  • How much storage do you need? Can you optimize what is available?
  • How big is the bedroom? Does it accommodate the bed size you have or are interested in purchasing?
  • What do you consider to be the “center of your home”?

These kinds of questions can be answered through careful planning or space-saving solutions. Want a place for visitors to sleep but don’t have a spare bedroom? Try a stylish sleeper sofa or futon to keep them cozy during their stay. Create multi-functional spaces in your home that optimize your living. Need a home office and a dining room? Why not both in one? The possibilities are endless!

Invest in Comfort

Your new home should be a place of comfort and relaxation. We think a great night’s sleep is essential to truly enjoying your home and starting each day on the right foot. Recently, Ashley HomeStore launched Gruve, a mattress in a box that delivers innovation and convenience to your front door.

Gruve is made with technology that helps you achieve a better night’s sleep from the time you unpack the box. All you need to do is roll is out. The micro-tech cover helps keep you cool yet cozy at night, so don’t worry about going to the thermostat at 3 a.m. to adjust the temperature. And every Gruve mattress is infused with charcoal and green tea extract for a peaceful evening’s rest.

Complete this comfortable set up with plush bedding that ties the room together. Adorn your bed with accent pillows that provide a pop of color. For a polished look, use the karate-chop method to fluff your pillows. To discover more inspiration on creating the bedroom of your dreams, check out this blog post.

Reimagine your moving strategy to eliminate stress. With some measuring tape and a good idea of your storage needs, your moving day will be a smooth transition into enjoying your new home. So, don’t pack the worry up with the good plates and just leave it behind.

Complete a Beautiful Space with Decorative Accents

Coastal_accents

As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And neither is your dream home. It requires extensive care and meticulous selection. But each new addition brings you and your family one step closer to achieving that perfect space. Let’s say you have selected a cozy sofa for a movie night or an elegant bedroom set, but something is missing. The hours of Pinterest scrolling and online browsing are starting to add up. Curated boards have helped you discover your interior design preferences. But how do you put this knowledge to practice?

Decorative accents are a great way to incorporate your style into the space after you’ve purchased your big-ticket items. They can add pops of color, create the illusion of more space and help you achieve a cohesive look. And we’re here to help you complete your home makeover! We are partnering with our Interior Design Team to show you ways to shop for these final touches. Browse the mood boards to explore the different styles and watch your home come to life.

Sea Breeze from the Sofa

Bottle the misty air of the ocean and bring it into your space with coastal-inspired decor! For this look, follow a neutral color palette with a subtle wash of blues and greens to emulate the look of the refreshing waterside.

Add quaint touches like seashells or landscape wall art to replicate a seaside bungalow. Or go with an abstract beauty that resembles the colors and movement of tranquil waves. Create a marine blue glow in your space with sea glass-inspired pendant lights.

Shine Bright with These Accents

For those of you transforming your space to reflect your bold personality and eye for interior design, look to jewel tones. Rich emerald green, burgundy and sapphire are show-stopping colors that build an elegant home.

Royal textures like velvet create visual interest in a room commanded by captivating colors. Or you can start with an edgy, monochromatic look that focuses on one shade. Match the tones of your furniture to accents like ottomans or poufs to establish a chic and modern space. Either way, you are on your way to creating a space that is as unique as you are.

Picking Petals or Pastel Accents

Want a tranquil environment that also displays your love of color? Drape your home in soft elegance with an array of delicate pastel shades. This aesthetic is a great compromise for anyone looking to think outside of the typical interior design color wheel.

A pastel room captures the light tone of a spring day (without the pollen)! Take inspiration from your favorite seasonal blooms. You can start with one pop of color that ties the room together and add complementing shades as you see fit. Another way to navigate your colorful space is to pick out an area rug and select other accents that feature the same shades.

A Desert Escape

We are going out West for our final look book. This style is a great model for fans of an eclectic, bohemian vibe. These details bring the warmth of the desert into your home.

Allow your space to embody the desert’s atmosphere through the color palette. Add muted greens that are inspired by the tall saguaro cactuses of the Arizona desert. Subtle peach shades can resemble dusky sunsets. And warm, chestnut brown pieces that take inspiration from the earthy features of the region.

Add the finishing touches you need to complete your latest makeover. Each decorative accent can get you closer to that perfect look from your Pinterest board. Whether that’s wall art above the sofa or an illuminating light fixture over the dining table, each piece should work to tie everything together. Home decor helps fill in any design gaps in your space, which could be functional or purely aesthetic.

We’d love to see how you decorate your space to create your dream home. Tag us on Instagram using #MyAshleyHome, and you might even see your photo on our feed! You can also discover more inspiration for your next home makeover by browsing our Pinterest boards.

A Guide to Fall Decorating in the South

autumnal_bedroom

As we move through September, it’s time to prepare for the changing of the seasons. And although we love watching romantic comedies set in the Northeast during fall — with golden leaves cascading off the trees — not everyone experiences the same autumnal transition. However, those who dwell in Southern states can still bring the spirit of fall into their homes through decor.

So while some of you might be taking notice to chillier evenings or the changing foliage in your backyard, many Southerners are still trying to beat the heat among sunshine-filled days. We want to help you celebrate the new season to the best of your ability and create a beautiful space along the way. Decorate your home with the colors and textures of fall. Don’t light the fireplace just yet; first read these tips on how to add autumnal details to your home.

Making the Most of the Weather

One of the greatest things about experiencing fall in the South is the weather. Use the sunshine to your advantage and spend time outside. Refresh your outdoor area and build a space for year-round use. You can share stories around a bonfire with s’mores materials in tow. Just be sure you don’t burn the marshmallows!

And if you have a small outdoor area, like the balcony of an apartment, take time to create a cozy seating area. Measure out the space for a plush loveseat, or a two-person dining set. We love breakfast with a view. This renovated area will allow you to take in all the sights and sounds of your city. You can even enjoy some light reading and a warm breeze. For inspiration on creating the perfect patio or backyard space, click here

You Don’t Have to Like Pumpkin Spice

Let’s set the table for fall with a seasonal dining area! Create an autumnal experience with an adorable tablescape. Shop small additions that enhance the cozy ambiance. Long, tapered candlesticks will add a warm glow to your evening, and we suggest pairing them with bronze candle holders. You can also add fall-friendly colors through ornate vases, table runners and place mats. Floral arrangements that feature eucalyptus and sunflowers will complete a rustic look.

Now, let’s give your menu a refresh. Each season comes with its trademark meals and treats. Autumn is full of rich flavors and dishes that encapsulate the feeling of home. And every year one culinary fixture creeps closer into the summer months: the pumpkin spice latte. Have no fear; you don’t need to enjoy the seasoning to embrace fall in your space. But you can introduce cozy, autumnal feelings through your dining experience in other ways!

Autumnal staples include favorites like cranberries, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts and apples. But it also includes delicious additions like pears, mangos, grapes and raspberries. Incorporate these seasonal ingredients into your meals and desserts to taste the flavors that fall has to offer. For a full guide of what’s in season, click here. And share your favorite seasonal recipes in the comments below!

All About Fall Decorating

When we transition from summer to fall, the change around us is undeniable in ways other than changing temperatures. Even in the South, stores encourage us to stock up on sweaters, brew warm apple cider and prepare our holiday lists. But how can we truly reflect the ambiance of fall in our home when the forecast reads summer temperatures? We embrace the excitement of change as we say goodbye to summer and hello to fall home decor.

Inspired by the Leaves

An easy way to navigate autumnal accents is to think of your favorite fall motif. For instance, you can take inspiration from your favorite vintage fisherman’s sweater and shop knitted details like poufs and throw blankets. Those feel-good textures create a cozy vibe that’s perfect for fall. Another popular motif is colorful leaves. Although the trees stay green in the South, you can use changing foliage as a piece of inspiration. Add warm hues to your space wherever you can. Start with a red throw blanket and burnt orange accent pillows.

Attitude of Gratitude

Another great motif to include in your home this season is gratitude! Decorate your home with thankfulness and appreciation for your loved ones. This can be a sign on a well-placed gallery wall, or an accent pillow in the middle of your sofa. This could be a way to get the family involved in an afternoon of painting and creating. And we’d love to see how it turns out, so share it with us.

As cliché as it is, we truly *fall* in love with home decor as the seasons change. It’s an excuse to give your house a small makeover without the heavy lifting. Autumn calls for hues like amber and garnet that bring a warmth to our spaces and keep us cozy through the end of the year. And if your hometown experiences a warm weather fall, leave your seasonal decorating tips in the comments below!

You can also share your photos with us using #MyAshleyHome on Instagram. We might even feature your space on our feed. For anyone looking for more inspiration on creating a beautiful home, check out our Pinterest boards.

How to Build Yourself a Better Bathroom

farmhouse_bathroom

Rinse, renovate and redecorate! Your bathroom is ready for a well-deserved makeover, and we are here to help. Your bathroom is an essential part of your self-care routine, so treat yourself to a new look. Whether you need a rejuvenating space to help kick-start your day or a luxurious experience to help you unwind, it should feature all the functions you need.

We have introduced a newly-expanded bathroom assortment to get you inspired to achieve your dream home. Select styles that give you the perfect amount of counter space for your favorite skincare products. Pick a shower installation that creates a spa-like ambiance. To help you start the transformation, we’ve compiled a buying guide that features all the essentials you will need. Read below to discover all the ways you can reinvent your bathroom. And don’t forget to click each image to shop the look!

Creating a Renovation Routine

Not a fan of crisp, white tile? Or are you unsure of how to create a bohemian jungle shower? Consult the experts of interior inspiration: Pinterest! Use the platform to discover how you can translate your interior design style to a bathroom makeover. Here are a few questions to get you started on your journey:

  • Am I more of a shower or bath person?
  • How much time do I spend completing my self-care routine in the bathroom?
  • How much space do I need?
  • Do I need a single or double vanity?

Pinterest and YouTube are also great resources to find DIY projects for your transformation. Learn how to tackle laying your own tile or installing your own vanity! And if you have completed a bathroom renovation, tell us about it. Share your tips in the comments below.

Smart Bathroom Storage

Now that you have assessed your space and everything you need in your ideal bathroom, let’s get to shopping! We aren’t at the hands-on, DIY step of this makeover, so no need to bring out the sledgehammers to start demolition.

The next phase of this transformation is storage. Sometimes our bathrooms are a catch-all type of space. We store cleaning products to keep everything spotless, from drain cleaner to grout remover and so on. We hide away extra towels and our abundance of sample products. Being intentional about your bathroom storage is a great way to use every inch of space you have available.

The Perfect Vanity

The vanity acts as the centerpiece of the bathroom and is the main pit stop during your routine. Select a piece that meets your needs and the dimensions of your space. Leave room for door openings —  including the entryway and shower — and the trim. Depending on the scale of your renovation, keep existing features in mind like mirrors, electrical switches and outlets when shopping for a vanity.

Making Space

Now the selection is just a matter of your design preference! Once you have your space measured and sized for the renovation, select a freestanding or built-in vanity. Then you’re off to explore all your options.

Keep things cohesive in your space when it comes to features like hardware, color and finish. Going for a modern home? Try a sleek vanity with a white, marble top and black matte hardware for a polished look. Or maybe you’re more traditional. Browse pieces that feature silver knobs or handles and a neutral paint finish. This is truly the part of the renovation where you get to experiment with your style.

Function Meets Fashion

Need a little more space? Or just want an additional feature that ties the room together and helps you display your decor? Try additional shelving! This might be the perfect solution to maximize your bathroom.

So, let’s style these shelves. You can search towel folding styles on Pinterest to add a thoughtful detail to your bathroom and give it a spa-like feel. Use storage bins to hide away grooming tools like hair brushes, straighteners and dryers. We also suggest displaying your favorite products and self-care goodies. Use a metallic tray to elevate the look and keep things neat. Use your favorite products from your self-care routine as decor. Personally, we’ve placed our Holy Grail cleanser at the center of our vanity!

Keep Things Fresh with Decor

Adding home decor to any space is a great way to incorporate your personal style, including in your bathroom! Hang a chic mirror to serve as the perfect reflection for your selfies or a cute piece of art that acts as a pop of color. Liven up your bathroom with these accent pieces.

Pampering Plants

Let’s add some zen vibes to this makeover! Adding plants will create a serene look in your bathroom that helps you relax as you prepare for the day ahead or decompress at night. And even if the space does not receive an abundance of light, no big deal. There are many plants that thrive off of artificial light or none at all. You can also style your space with faux plants perched on floating shelves to create a jungle-like atmosphere. Check out this guide to learn more about adding plants to your bathroom.

Welcome Home: Entryways in Style

entryway

We have a helpful interior design tip to transform your entryway: style every square inch of your home to reflect your personality. When creating your dream home, it’s easy to become focused on the bigger picture. The comfy couch for movie night, the five-star dining experience or the cloud-like bed are at the top of your renovation list. But let’s not forget the small areas in our home that can reflect our personal style just as much as the main rooms.

For your next home project, take a look at your front door! Your entryway is your personal welcome home every day, and acts as the first impression for guests. Make this space stand out and speak to your style and the aesthetic of your home. With the help of our Interior Design team, we’ve compiled some mood boards to get you started on your small space transformation. Check out these adorable entryway concepts.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses

Want to bring the delicate flora and foliage of springtime to your space? Revamp your barren entryway and plant a beautiful scenery with a floral-inspired look. A pastel color palette mixed with neutral pieces is a great way to brighten up your entryway and open the door to blooming shades of pink, blue and orange.

A tip for an entryway is to hang mirrored wall sconces. These additions give the illusion of more space, and the reflection of light will brighten up the area. And maximize your entryway with smart storage to keep the hallway clear, like a console table to store rain boots and umbrellas. There’s no need to bring April showers into your adorable space.

Sleek Style Starts at the Entryway

Fans of minimalism and modernism alike can elevate their entryways by taking on a “less is more” approach. Focus on the essentials of the space to keep the area functional and clutter free. When thinking of this design, ask yourself questions like:

  • Do I need additional storage?
  • Will I use this to check my makeup or outfit before leaving the house?
  • How can I make this space work for me?

Optimize this small space with a compact coat rack to store damp outerwear after a day in the rain. You can also achieve the look with a floating shelf that features hooks for your jackets or bags. We suggest adding a storage bench for days you are running out the door and almost leave your footwear behind!

Slow Roast or Cold Brew?

Turn your favorite beverage into home décor! Sometimes, creating the perfect space is like discovering your favorite coffee blend. Every room should be catered to your order … or your personal style. Here’s one way to use your entryway space to build a coffee house experience!

In your front entry, think about how your storage pieces work in your home and reflect your eye for interior design. Your furniture and accompanying pieces can also function fashionably! An accent cabinet offers sleek storage for all your essentials and provides extra counter space for your amateur barista needs. Stock the coffee corner with your favorite roasts, mugs and accessories.

Cheers to this Entryway

Recreate the moody ambiance of your favorite rooftop bar in your home, with the added benefit of a quieter atmosphere. This concept also features one of our favorite pieces of décor: plants! Make an entryway that is inspired by your local pub, a high-end spot featured in the paper or the home bar of your dreams!

For folks without a green thumb, we suggest faux plant varieties that always stay lusciously green. This is a great option if your front area does not receive a lot of natural light. (We promise not to tell anyone they aren’t real.) Use a tall bookcase to display ornate wine glasses, champagne flutes and preferred drinks. Add a cabinet to give yourself room to create delicious cocktails! This idea will surely shake up your space.

We hope you’ve walked through the front door of inspiration and are ready to get started on some amazing home projects! Styling your entryway can help complete your home and give things a polished look. Don’t leave any design stone un-turned when creating the perfect space for you. For more inspiration for your space, check out our Pinterest boards. At Home with Ashley: Meagan Miller

MM_living_mooboard

It’s time to open the front door of Ashley HomeStore and introduce you to another member of our team! For this “At Home with Ashley” feature, I wanted to highlight the story and style of my mentor, Meagan Miller. As Manager of Influencer Strategy and Strategic Partnerships, she oversees content from influencer campaigns and partnerships with other brands.

After working with Meagan for a year, I have learned about her friendly personality, her love of pink and her obsession with peanut butter pretzels. I am thrilled to be able to spotlight Meagan through this series and can’t wait for you to learn more about the Social Media Team!

Why Social Media?

Recently celebrating her three-year anniversary at Ashley HomeStore, Meagan has performed every task of a social media marketer. From scheduling content on Instagram, creating relationships with brands and influencers, to overseeing the projects of her team. She’s done it all. But her career in marketing started from a love of photography.

“My mom was a professional photographer. I started my Instagram just so I could post some of my photography. I was actually a nursing major in college when I fell in love with social media and switched my major to marketing,” she said. “From there I jumped in to learn everything there was to know about social media marketing.”

Working in an emerging section of the marketing field, Meagan loved the opportunity to build relationships online and offline. As a founder of Ashley’s influencer program, she has spent countless hours interacting with influencers and partners to create content for Ashley’s social channels.

Marketing Her Style

Meagan’s style is a reoccurring feature of her Instagram content, which she describes as vintage boho. Her space is a mixture of curated pieces from second-hand stores, and new finds from stores like Ashley!

Using her eye for social media to discover new trends that fit her style preferences, Meagan is constantly inspired by her feed. “I get most of my inspiration from Instagram and following my favorite influencers. I’m definitely the type of person who ‘swipes up to shop’ the look of other influencers,” she said.

Meagan’s favorite piece of furniture is a vintage find from her mother, her second-hand brass metal bed frame. After discovering the bed at a thrift store, her mother knew it was the perfect fit for Meagan’s space. “She actually rented a truck and drove three hours to my apartment to deliver it. I didn’t even see it before she brought it over. Now it’s my favorite piece of furniture and I can’t imagine not having it.”

The bed frame combines Meagan’s love of vintage design with eclectic bohemian vibes. The brass brings a warmth to her room that is perfect for a cozy space. You can shop a similar style here

Un-Plugged at Home

With a career in social media, how does Meagan remove herself from the continuous scroll of the digital world? She finds ways to connect to her space and remove herself from the internet. During my time at Ashley, Meagan has shared her passion for reading and countless book recommendations.

“I love sitting in my room and reading a book. My room is such a cozy space and I think it’s so important to have a space in your home that you love to go to at the end of a day,” she said.

For Meagan, home is a place dedicated to relaxation that brings her a big breath of relief at the end of the work week. She is always greeted by a happy puppy, her Corgi named Amelia, who is ready to play or lay down for another nap. And recently she has been exploring the world of veganism and plant-based eating, which keeps her and her roommates in the kitchen.

“I’m so blessed to have a space I can call my own that is safe and happy,” she said. “It’s so important to me that everyone has a space they can go to and relax after a long day.”

Creating the Perfect Space

When designing her perfect apartment, Meagan looked for décor that matched her love of vintage bohemian spaces. Whether or not you consider yourself an amateur botanist, she believes that plants are an essential for decorating any home. Even if they don’t require any water.

“I have at least one plant in every room in the house. It brings me so much joy to see my plants thriving! If you don’t have a green thumb try fake plants but either way I think they are a staple décor item,” she said.

To make the most of her balcony and the Florida sunshine, Meagan and her roommates invested time into creating a great small outdoor area. They added a small table and two chairs, which is perfect for meals that feature a sunset view. Of course, she included hanging planters to bring that natural element without taking up too much space.

But Meagan’s biggest advice for apartment dwellers comes from her experience of living at the top of her building, without an elevator.

“I think regardless of if you have a house or an apartment, you should create a space you love!” she said. “For apartment dwellers, just make sure you can get everything upstairs.”

Meagan’s journey is the fourth edition of our “At Home with Ashley” series, to read more about our Ashley HomeStore team, click here. You can also check out the “This or That” rapid-fire Q&A with Meagan down below, and feel free to complete the list yourself. We’d love to learn more about our XO Ashley readers!

At Home with Ashley: Joyleene Padilla

JP_Moodboard

We have another virtual home tour for our XO Ashley readers! We are continuing our At Home with Ashley series to open the front door of our spaces and share anecdotes from our coworkers. In this edition, we are sitting down with interior designer, Joyleene Padilla. Joyleene has been at Ashley HomeStore for three years and has spent her time on the Social Media Team creating beautiful spaces for brand events and influencer collaborations. She brings her fun-loving, vivacious personality to work every day and it is evident in her creative design mood boards.

Take a look inside Joyleene’s path to becoming an interior designer, her work style and some of her favorite designs.

Getting Her Start in Design

From her days of redecorating and reorganizing her childhood bedroom, Joyleene said she has always gravitated toward home décor. However, channeling that passion into a full-time job wasn’t in the front of her mind.

“I’ve been obsessed with HGTV since high school,” she said. “But it wasn’t until my first year of college that I recognized interior design was my career path. I was actually studying to become a marine biologist.”

As a member of the Social Media Team at Ashley, Joyleene has had the opportunity to take her design work across the country and assist in a variety of projects. Her adventurous spirit is always up for the task, and relishes in her ability to create unique spaces.

“I love being on location and in my element. Oftentimes, I get so in the zone of styling, I forget to eat. But I love every second of that struggle. Seeing the look on my clients’ faces when they see the space complete is my absolute favorite part.”

Working with Clients

When it comes to curating spaces for work, Joyleene describes herself as a versatile designer. She says it’s important to stay impartial and focus on the needs and visions of her clients, but she does have her favorite aesthetics.

“Some designers specialize in a specific design style and find their niche market. I, myself, live for a good challenge so I try not to limit myself to a single design style,” she said. “But, I will say my two favorite styles to design in are mid-century and contemporary glam. They are both fun and interesting in opposite ways.”

Her client-focused way of designing gives her freedom to design spaces for the individual, rather than a fixed look. And this approach goes all the way to the smallest detail in a home. Joyleene believes that a client’s home should embody their personality and interests.

“I thoroughly believe your home is a reflection of you. So, when you enter your home you should be surrounded by things you love,” Joyleene said. “Whether that be a lot of knick-knacks or none that is up to you. But each item should make you smile.”

Re-purposing Classic Pieces

In her own home, Joyleene takes the time to find and collect vintage pieces that tell a story. She repurposes furniture items to give them a second life and an updated style. Her favorite piece of décor in her home hails from a thrift store.

“It’s an original Kipp Stewart Mid-Century Bench. I have always been an advocate for rescuing antique pieces. The quality of furniture coupled with the price plus repair is unbeatable,” she said. Click here to shop effortlessly versatile benches for any space in your home.

Joyleene’s home is a cozy nook full of family memories and comfy spots to snuggle with her two beagles. Just like her design work, she has created a place that is a true reflection of herself and what she loves.

Décor Creates a Home

Now, let’s get to designing! When it comes to big ticket pieces, Joyleene advises clients to stick with a neutral color palette and decorate the space to add color.

“When purchasing furniture, unless you really see yourself loving that bold sofa in a year or two, don’t do it… Accent pieces are so easy and affordable to change out and they really can give your space an entire new look and feel,” she said.

And for first time home decorators, stay true to yourself and have fun. When asked for the best advice for beginners, Joyleene said décor accents are like icing on a cake. Like the dessert, the icing of a home can completely change the look of the end product. And don’t worry, you always have the cake under the icing! And if you’re still having a hard time decorating your cake, start small.

“Never underestimate the power of a good throw blanket,” Joyleene said. “It’s functional and can add some fun texture and color to any space.”
